Fortune Teller Valentine's Day Cards

February 12, 2019

Let me be clear - I’m not above handing out lollipops or other store-bought cards for Valentine’s Day. In fact, I had already finished congratulating myself for buying 3 boxes of cards on sale at the grocery store last week for my kids to give to their classmates. But it seems I missed the memo that Emi’s class doesn’t allow any food items. It crossed my mind that I could rip the lollipops off the cards but it seems kind of cruel to give a kid a ripped card that very obviously once held a lollipop. So I decided it might be fun to make some cards with Emi.

If you didn’t make paper fortune tellers as a kid, then you either had no paper and did all your work on chalkboards or just had a sad childhood. Seriously. As with all things these days, the messages I wrote in my fortune tellers as a kid would be super inappropriate now. So, instead of “You’re ugly!” and “All your teeth are going to fall out!”, I decided to go with uplifting, kind messages like: “You’re full of great ideas!” and “You’re a good friend.” Kids are so soft these days.

Well, the cards turned out pretty good. And even if the kids think they’re lame (first graders are SO hard to please these days!), they cost me nothing and are 100% biodegradable.
